Thanksgiving Table Ideas: An Elegant & Moody Tablescape

5 Easy Thanksgiving Table Decorating Ideas Anyone Can Do

Want to know how to create an elegant Thanksgiving table for your next gathering? In this post, I’ll share my favorite Thanksgiving table ideas to help you create a warm, moody, and inviting setting for your guests.

Thanksgiving Table

Creating a beautiful Thanksgiving table does not have to be complicated. With a few thoughtful details, you can create an elegant Thanksgiving table setting. The right details can make it feel warm, inviting, and memorable for your guests.

You will learn simple Thanksgiving table decorating ideas, from layering your table to creating your own centerpiece. You’ll also learn to add simple touches that bring everything together.

By the end of this post, you’ll have all the tips and ideas you need to create an elegant, moody Thanksgiving table.  This look is intentional, welcoming, and easy to recreate at home.

This post is all about Thanksgiving table ideas you need to help you create a moody, elegant, and inviting table for your next gathering.

1. Choosing your Thanksgiving Table Color Palette

Thanksgiving table

Choosing a color palette for your Thanksgiving table will help you get started. It can also guide you as you shop for your table decor.

For this tablescape, the table setting is moody and elegant. I used deep colors like burgundy, deep red, and aubergine, balanced with warm neutrals such as cream and ivory.

The contrast creates depth while keeping the table warm and inviting.

Natural textures, like the woven placemats and wood trays, add warmth and dimension to the table setting.

Another element I recommend is mixing metals. Start with brass candleholders and dark brown tapered candles. Pair them with stainless steel flatware for a curated and intentional look.

2. How to Set Up Your Thanksgiving Table Setting

Shop this table setting:

Dessert Plates | Woven Placemat | Doria Ribbed Flatware | Cloth Napkins | Ribbed Water Glass

Some of these pieces were found at HomeGoods and are no longer available. I’ve linked some pretty alternatives to help you recreate the look.

I always get my tablecloths at HomeGoods; you can find some really nice, high-quality tablecloths at an affordable price.

I found these dinner plates at an Estate Sale; they were a good find!

I love that they will go with any occasion.

3. Creating a Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece

Thanksgiving table

Ran out of time to shop for Thanksgiving decor? This is a great way to create a Thanksgiving table centerpiece without having to hunt for decor.

I like to use grocery store fruits and flowers to create a warm, moody, and elegant look. Fruit can also be enjoyed during or after your gathering, making it a simple way to create a centerpiece.

I also made the dried oranges; see my DIY Dried Orange for Holiday Decor tutorial to recreate the look.

4. Adding Thanksgiving Table Decorations

Thanksgiving Table

As you can see, this is the only pumpkin decor I have on this Thanksgiving table! You don’t need fancy decor or go all out with pumpkins. Instead, you can add small pops of decor here and there to create an elevated look. Using decor you can actually eat is always a plus!

5. Bringing the Thanksgiving Table Together

Thanksgiving table

So now you know your color palette, table setup, your centerpiece, and your decorations in place; now it’s time to bring everything together.

The combination of rich fall colors, warm neutrals, natural textures, and seasonal touches creates a beautiful, elegant, and inviting Thanksgiving table.

Beyond the Thanksgiving Table

Now that we have finished our Thanksgiving table, we’re not done just yet! To take your Thanksgiving decorating a step further, carry the same colors and textures throughout the space to create a cohesive and harmonious look.

Simple touches like seasonal fruit, candles, pumpkins, and vintage-inspired pieces can help create a warm and inviting space without making it feel overwhelming.

A simple drink station carries the same warm colors and inviting feel for your guests beyond the Thanksgiving table.

You don’t need a lot of decor to make an impact; a few thoughtful touches can add warmth and character without making the space feel cluttered.

Amazon Must Have Fall Decorations

Amazon Must Have Fall Decorations

Fall is here and it’s time to refresh our home with a new color palette and fall decorations. I have curated a fall palette that you can easily find with just one click away. These are the top Amazon favorites for Fall Decorations.

Fall Decorations

Tip #1

Start shopping early for Fall! You will find the cutest fall decorations if you start shopping early and find more available products. Most stores always start bringing out seasonal merchandise 3 months in advance so let’s get ahead with our fall decorations shopping!

Tip #2

Start a mood board or just a color palette you want to stick to this year, so you can have direction on what you are buying for your fall decorations. Again, we want to be conscious of what we buy and the goal is to buy timeless pieces so that they can be multi-purpose and you can use your fall decorations for a long time.

Fall Decorations
Mood Boards are so much fun and it allows you to see everything all in one place and you can see if it all goes together. I have curated a mood board with Amazons must-haves for fall decorations that would be beautiful this year.

Tip #3

Challenge yourself to do something new, whether it’s trying a different color palette or steering away from white and going bold into a darker color for your fall decorations. This can set a cozy mood in your home and feel like you are not putting the same decorations every year.

Just like you saw in the mood board it’s moody, cozy, and universal so you are able to use these pieces year-round and not have to constantly purchase new decor to keep up with the “trends”.

Here are the Top Amazon Must Have Fall Decorations

Fall Art Work

Using beautiful landscape artwork can set the mood for fall, I love using a good landscape, or just a moody warm-toned artwork that will elevate my fall decorations is a plus.

A Candlelight to Set the Mood

One thing you should do is get pretty candles and candleholders to use as your fall decorations, this is a great and inexpensive way to bring more of a finished decoration element to your home.

Vases and Florals

Adding dried florals is the way to go for a fall vibe and mixing it with beautiful organic vases to create elevated fall decorations in your home.

Kitchen Fall

You can add some warm colors for fall in your kitchen without being cheezy, these mugs are perfect for warm hot cocoa or matcha latte with some whipped cream on top! I love these mugs because not only are they perfect as fall decorations for your kitchen but also practical, dishwasher safe, and again you can use them all year round. As for the kitchen towels, they are great for some subtle color in your kitchen and with a pretty cream and green perfect for fall.

Cozy Throw Blankets

Cozy up with pretty and comfortable throw blankets to add to your fall decorations. Who doesn’t love warmth, texture, and comfy blankets for fall? I know I do here are some variations in throw blankets that you can use for fall and year-round.

Throw Pillows

Throw Pillows are a perfect way to add to your fall decorations collection, you can get some pillow inserts and just switch up pillow covers every year not only is it giving you something different every time but it also saves you space rather than having so many different pillows that you are stuffing in a closet.

These are the Amazon must-haves for fall decorations that I have curated just for you, so you can start your fall shopping early. As you start building your fall decorations collection, I hope I have given you inspiration on how I design and decorate my space with timeless pieces you can use year-round.

10 Easy Ways To Elevate Your Home

10 Easy Ways To Elevate Your Home

10 Easy Ways to Elevate Your Home

As we all know not everyone has the time to go to the store to hunt for pretty decor to elevate your home here are the best finds.

Here are the Top 10 easy ways to elevate your home with just one click away!

1. Art Work

Finding pretty Art work like landscapes, still art, and vintage florals, are some examples of how this can help elevate your home and make it look expensive on a budget.

    Elevate Your Home Art

Pretty art can elevate your home and create mood, inspiration, and intentional design.

2. Area Rug instead of Bath Mats

Instead of going for the generic bath mats try swapping them out for an area rug to make your bathroom look designer. Whether it is a small area rug or a runner, this will elevate your home 1000%!

3. Linen Curtains

Linen curtains are the best way to add texture, elegance, and natural lighting to your home. Make sure when you hang your curtains to add them as high as you can to add height to your space and make your home feel grand!

Curtains are like the earrings to your outfit, they literally make a huge difference in your home. Try staying away from the grommet curtains and get the rod pocket on your curtains this will help your home look more luxurious!

4. Mini Lamp in Kitchen

Everyone needs a mini lamp in their kitchen, this adds another element of design. Whether you rent or own adding a lamp in your kitchen can add a homey feeling. So when your kitchen is closed and your turn off all your lights keep your kitchen lamp on it will add moodiness, warmth, and style to your kitchen.

5. Decorative Pillows

One way to elevate your home is not to use the pillows your couch came in! Try to find different pillows with different colors and textures to give your home a unique style. Try to refrain from matching pillows and get 1 of different shades of color or complimentary colors.

6. Layering Your Bedding

Layering your bedding is one of the most satisfying and easy ways to make your home designer and cozy. I recommend collecting bedding of colors that go well together.

If you like a neutral vibe start with linen white sheets as your base, then a duvet insert I highly recommend getting a beige or neutral color duvet insert this is an affordable way to change your sheets every time without spending on a new comforter every time. I also find that the duvet is a space saver but if you want volume you can opt for a comforter.

The next way to add layers to your bed is to add a quilt can be a pattern, florals, stripes, etc., and then layer another throw blanket over the top of your beautiful bedding.

Lastly, your pillows add decorative pillows! I love this part because you can either add a lot of pillows or do minimal and your bed will still look good. It’s all about balance!

7. Unique Vessels

Finding unique vessels are hard to come by but if you can get your hands on a beautiful unique piece it will give your home decor character. You can use the vessels alone or add some dried flowers and it will look so good!

Getting an organic shape, clay or ceramic vessel will elevate your home!

8. Dough Bowls / Trays

Dough bowls are a must in any decor collection! I personally have started collecting a few so I can use them throughout my home and let me tell you this completes your look! You can add it to your coffee table, console table, kitchen, in your bedroom, and even bathroom.

9. Coffee Table Books

Finding unique coffee table books will elevate your home, try finding books that not only look pretty but have inspiration or historic artifacts in the books. While everyone else is recommending interior design books only, I like to mix a few art books as well. Art can have a huge impact in your space but can also serve as a purpose and inspiration throughout your home. I like to mix in some regular books with pretty covers that can add dimension, height, and different sizes to your space.

10. Change your Hardware

Pretty Hardware can change and up your game in your space! Even if you have existing cabinetry in your kitchen, dresser, desk, or console can change the look of your home. Adding small changes can make a huge difference! Depending on your style you can go with any finish, for example, antique brass, polished brass, chrome, oil-brushed bronze, or matte blank. Any updated hardware or repurposing antique hardware will add so much character to your home.

As you start adding these elements to your home you will start seeing everything come together. Start one project at a time, and really see what you like and what you don’t like. Then pair different colors, finishes, and art together to see what works so you can create a cohesive design through your home.

Top 5 Styles for your Dream House

Top 5 Styles for your Dream House

Dream House

Whether you are house hunting or working towards your goal to become a homeowner, these are the top 5 design styles you need for your Dream House. Making this decision to build your dream house and make it your own can be hard because there are so many options. I am here to make it easier for you to get some inspo to show you the top 5 styles for your dream house.

Design Trends are going back in time to save and preserve old homes, so here are the homes styles that are trending and are here to stay.

Spanish Colonial Revival & Meditteranean Style

Dream House Spanish Style

Spanish and Mediterranean Style homes are the most beautiful homes with tons of Architectural details from clay tiles, wrought iron details, saltillo tiles, and of course plastered walls. All features make a Spanish-style home and with adding touches to modern times. Adding a little bit of warmth like lime wash paint on the walls, clay tiles, or even travertine to get a Mediterranean style and add greenery into your home with a beautiful olive tree.

Cottage Style Home

Dram House Cottage

How amazing would it be to own a country cottage-style house? With Beautiful gables, wood siding, crown moldings, beadboard on the walls, and ceilings. The cottage style is such a cozy dream house for those who love a piece of history and architectural details.

I can definitely see myself drinking coffee by the fireplace and cozying up with my boo just enjoying the moment. Adding cottage style as your dream house is giving me all the feels.

European Farmhouse

Dream House European Farmhouse

I don’t know if the style European Farmhouse exists but that’s what I’m calling this style because I am obsessed. Europe’s architecture is on another level taking inspiration from European style it is just giving old world but in today’s time age. Adding rustic vintage furniture, bringing in some warmth from stained wood trim, adding warm and moody lighting, with beautiful vintage paintings.

This European Farmhouse style I am telling you all is the new trend we will be seeing for the next few years.

Mid-Century Modern

Dram House Mid Century Modern

The famous Mid-Century Modern style for a dream house is one the styles that are so timeless. I love this style because of the open floor plan, having a connection with the outside by the large floor-to-ceiling windows and can I just say Mid-Century Modern is like living your Madmen dream in real life. You can play with patterns, clean line furniture, and fun pops of color.

MCM will always be a trend more reason to add this style to your dream house.

Contemporary Style Home

Dream House Contemporary Modern

I couldn’t help but add contemporary-style homes because quite frankly this is a new trend that will stay for quite a while. If done right contemporary can look nice if you add architectural features that will have a wow factor. One of the ways is mixing wood natural or stained as a feature in the home and then mixing them with black or white paint to create a contrast. Stay away from Marble in the newer home and instead add something with character and warmth so the home doesn’t look too staged you want to add wide plank wood flooring, use 2×6 tiles or 4×4 clay tile to add some texture and dimension.

It’s very easy for newer homes to lack character so adding these features will separate your homes from the others.

Dream House Styles

Dream HouseDream HouseDream HouseDream HouseSo now that we talked about the Top 5 Styles for your Dream House that will be here to stay, tell me which one is your favorite style.

I love Architecture and love older homes my favorite is Spanish/Meditteranean Style, Cottage Style, and European Farmhouse Style. I used these to add to my goals board so that I can continue to get inspired and motivated to help find my interior design style.

A 1912 Craftsman Bungalow Old House Remodel – Kitchen Edition

Old House Remodel

My parents bought a beautiful 1912 Craftsman Bungalow in Los Angeles, CA back in 1999. This is going to become a series as we tackle multiple areas in the home and talk about the design process. I will show you how to plan, design, manage, budget, and DIY the 1912 kitchen. This is a great way to help you to tackle your first old house remodel. I will show you from start to finish what you can do to successfully design and remodel your old home.

Figure Out the Scope of Work

Ever wonder what the house you live in originally looked like? This year marks my parent’s home 100 years old! It is absolutely amazing how they used to build these homes to last 100s of years. My parents previously remodeled their old house kitchen just a few years after they bought it because the kitchen was smaller. Check this out it had a half bathroom in the kitchen!!! (I wonder who thought that was a good idea to do that?)

Anyways, they tore down the faux fireplace and opened up the kitchen. Although the kitchen remodel looked beautiful it did not last very long, there were leaks in several areas in the kitchen, broken floor tile, and in need of more storage.

How to get started

Step 1

Write down what is your scope of work such as: what is your goal for this project, what you need to fix, and what you want it to look like. Ask yourself what will be existing, what will be new, and what you are going to demo. In our case, This old house remodel will need to replace the flooring, replace some cabinets where there was leakage, patch a part of the ceiling, refinish cabinetry, add some cabinetry, paint walls, backsplash, countertops, and new lighting.

Old House Remodel - Scope of Work Kitchen
Write a brief description of the scope of work that needs to be done. This is a great way to see the overall purpose of the project and a clear understanding of what needs to be done. You can include the project address I exclude for the privacy of my parent’s home.

So I am tackling this old house remodel starting with the kitchen with my dad and we’re doing it right this time.

My plan for this old house remodel in the kitchen is to bring back the character of the home with a true Craftsman kitchen. In this post, I am going to show you in real-time all things, planning, designing, construction budgets, schedules, material lists, and DIY projects.

So get ready because we are tackling this 1912 old house remodel kitchen edition.

Step 2

First and foremost before you start your project take your before pictures, this is your reminder! I cannot tell you how many times I have started a project and forgot to take the before pictures. You are welcome to also take a video. Doing this will help you reference back to what is in the space during the design and planning process. It will be such a satisfying feeling looking at the before and after pictures. I kid you not you will thank me later.

Old House Remodel - Pcitures

Step 3

If you are working on an old house remodel you MUST do a mold, asbestos, and lead test. It is really important before you do anything to test for your safety and those around you. Handle with care and make sure you have PPE such as gloves, mask N95, and goggles. If you are intimidated by doing this yourself there are professionals that can do these tests for you.

Old House Remodel - Mold Test
This is the not-so-pretty part of remodeling but it is a very important step in your process. Your health is important and if you don’t feel safe doing this, seek professional help.
*Disclaimer I am not a mold, asbestos, and lead professional, everything I share is for my specific needs and situation to start an old house remodel. Do not take this as professional advice and do your due diligence to do your own research.

Step 4

Measure your space! In my case since we will be keeping our cabinetry, we will be refinishing them and adding some more for more storage. I am going to measure the existing cabinets, existing appliances, flooring, walls, ceiling heights, windows, counters, etc.

This is very important for the old house remodel so you are able to start your new floor plan to make sure you see your design and start your planning process.

Old House Remodel - Measure
Make sure to measure everything this is very important for the next step in the next blog post. This is going to help you plan your design.

This is just the start of an amazing journey to the 1912 Craftsman Bungalow Old House Remodel. This is just the beginning of a ton of steps and processes we need to take before completing this project.

Stay tuned for the next blog post as I explain how to start space planning, designing, construction budgets, schedules, material lists, DIY projects, and finalizing every detail for a true craftsman bungalow kitchen on a budget.

See you guys in the next post!

Interior Design Kitchen Design Process

7 EASY STEPS TO START YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN KITCHEN DESIGN PROCESS

If you are ready to start a kitchen project but don’t know where to start you have come to the right place!

Interior Design Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the main important rooms in your home, whether you love to cook or hate to cook, we use our kitchen to nourish ourselves, drink our morning coffee, or host for others. Sometimes kitchens can be difficult to design and can also be expensive to remodel. In this blog, I will show you some tips and fundamentals in all things interior design kitchen.

Things to ask yourself:

What does your routine look like in the kitchen?

Do you like to cook or like to watch someone cook?

Do you host or just have a one-on-one dinner?

What do you want your kitchen to look like?

Do you have kids?

Asking yourself these questions can help you first find your interior design style for your Kitchen and functionality. Here at Michelle Marrufo Studio I love interior design but also love functionality to fit our lifestyle.

I’ll use my parent’s house as an example their home is a 1910 California Bungalow/Craftsman home, their kitchen was remodeled around the early 2000s but there was some water damage and tear over time due to poor installations, which is in desperate need of a remodel. (Remodel coming soon)

I want to add craftsman design elements back into my parent’s kitchen. Adding beautiful moldings, wainscoting, wood materials, and a moody color palette.

In this household, my parents and brother live downstairs and my sister, her husband, and 2 kids live upstairs. So it’s a little jammed-packed in the house but this is very common in many households living in Los Angeles. What do you do when you have no pantry with very little storage. How do we maximize storage to make the kitchen less cluttered and more functional?

That is the question I ask myself to design the house not only to make it pretty but also functional. So be intentional in your needs and wants.

I plan to add pantry cabinetry, add upper cabinets on an empty wall, fix some damaged cabinets to use the cabinets, and add storage solutions for cabinets.

Let’s start this Interior Design Kitchen process:

1. Measure your existing kitchen (really important)

Interior Design Kitchen Measuring

2. Draw a floor plan of the existing kitchen

Interior Design Kitchen Floor Plan

3. Take some vellum or trace paper and trace over the existing kitchen and play with the layout. (keep original in case you mess up or change the layout)

4. Go on Pinterest or Google and find inspiration pictures or color schemes that best fit your style.

Interior Design Kitchen Inspiration

5. Get samples (seeing samples in-person look so different than online or in a catalog.)

Interior Design Kitchen Samples

6. Gather all your materials and create your mood board.

7. Just start whether is shopping for more storage, demoing the flooring and adding new flooring, painting walls or cabinetry, or even as simple as changing your lighting and hardware.

Just start your planning process and start doing. I know kitchens can be very intimidating but don’t be afraid to make your cabinets or even start a kitchen renovation savings so you can slowly start your interior design kitchen journey.

Interior design kitchens can be intimidating but start a plan, budget, and start building.

Links to materials to start planning your kitchen designs

Graph Paper 8 1/2″ x 11 3/4″

This is one of the essential items you need to design your kitchen or any room in your home. I use this one because I am always on the go and would like to carry this in my purse, padfolio, it is small enough to carry around and also big enough to design each room on your graph paper.

Graph Paper 11″ x 17″

Having this size graph is also great to have in your interior design collection as you start designing more and more you will need to be able to have enough space to fit in an entire home floor plan.

Measuring Tape

I love this measuring tape, it is a great quality measuring tape for the price and I chose the 30ft. tape because when you’re designing you always want to be prepared for any site or any project so having the 30ft measuring tape will avoid you having to later down the line buying another one.

12″ Architectural Scale
Having an architectural scale is crucial to have so you can scale and place all your measurements into your floor plans. This is the larger scale.

6″ Architectural Scale

I love love love this 6″ architectural scale, its so compact, and amazing when you are working on a smaller scale project or just a small room. Getting the smaller measurements in place with a small scale allows me to work efficiently. This is a must-have!

Welcome to my First Blog

Welcome to my blog! I am very excited to start a new season in my life where I can share Ideas, Designs, Deals, Food Recipes, and a word of encouragement to you all. I welcome you to join in this new new chapter maybe you are looking to a new start in your life, maybe you feel you are stuck in a funk as I have, or maybe you are looking for some inspiration.

I want to build a community that will encourage you and uplift you to take a risk and start doing what you love. I was stuck for many years with fear of failure but here I am finally taking the courage to build something for me and you! This blog will be filled with beautiful interior designs you can implement in your own home with a limited budget and maybe a splurge here and there. I also love to cook and I love to eat, I will also post some of my favorite recipes that are so delicious you would not want to go to another restaurant anymore! I mean it.

Lastly, I want to share on this blog lifestyles and faith related words, in times of uncertainty what has sustained me through this pandemic and losing my job is my relationship with God. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have God by my side and all the glory goes to him.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post I look forward to sharing tons of ideas I have planned for you all and how we can make your home even more beautiful and elevated.

Psalms 23:3 (NIV) “he refreshes my soul. He Guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”
